Decisions, Decisions....

Ok, taking a different format today because my head is spinning.  Yea, I know, what else is new???  I think I've officially made the decision to get my personal training certification as well as learning the TRX in home training system.  I have all of this momentum building in me and so much that I want to do, that I think it's best that I just go ahead and get re-certified.  What do you all think?  Have any ideas for me????  Just using this as a sounding board.  What would motivate you to exercise?  Having someone come to your house?  Working out with friends?  Going to a gym?  Any ideas are welcome.  This is a safe place: )

  1. Maybe having someone come to my house - maybe. Definitely NOT with friends - that makes me hurl, not want to go. I would have loved to have had someone show up about 6 weeks after each of my kids were born with a plan (reasonable) and support to get me going again. It would have to mix cardio with strength training, and relaxation (yoga). It would have to be reasonably priced since I am on mat. leave and not getting paid. It would potentially lead to more intense personal training later on - but would also be a good "start up" program.

I would have been really happy with that.

  2. A huge motivator for me seems to be accounting to an authority on body condition. As you know, I go to physical therapy for the ol' knee. They take actual measurements of my quads and measure how far I can straighten and bend. When I do my "homework" and then my "extra credit", I make my therapist so happy and they in turn give me huge praise.

The achievements are the easy part. Hold on... the plateaus are THE HARDEST to cope with and staying focused. It's almost like a switch in the head when I don't move on on up the ladder. I tend to cheat and well, lie to myself. Does that make sense? I'm not sure what this comment will do for you but maybe it will jog your mind. PUN INTENDED!

  3. Jodi, that is a great idea. I don't know if anyone specializes in that kind of thing or not? But when I get certified I can do all of those things in home. I don't know if you just meant when you had your babies and now you don't need it? OR if you still do. But affordability is definitely a factor. It is usually going to cost you more (I would think) to have someone come to your house as opposed to going to a gym because they have to travel to you and provide the equipment.

Erin, yes, most people, myself included will do a lot more for positive reinforcement than for no kuddos at all! Ok, so you just nailed it on the head. That you cheat and lie to yourself. So think, when you cheat and lie to yourself, are you hurting anyone else or just you???? Yea, just YOU. SO, either learn to hold yourself accountable, or get someone to do it for you. An extremely effective method is writing down everything you eat. EVERY SINGLE THING that goes in your mouth. As well as an exercise journal. And be accurate. If you are motivated by your p.t. therapist giving you praise, think how much better you will feel tackling some of your demons yourself and when you start to see your shape change???

I hope that helps a little???

  4. I do food journal during the week. Sigh. It's a *very* lovely reality check. But you know what - it's made me way more concentious and that is a good thing! I ain't perfect - but I am much better than I was. Oreos are no longer a food group for me.

I think now I am more self-motivated than I was in those early post partum weeks when you're hormonal and sleep deprived and can't. stop. eating. THAT's when I needed to be rescued. I am not looking for a gymful of equipment to arrive - I have resistance bands and a big ole balance ball and a yoga matt and enough other riff raff that I am sure you could have cobbled some kind of routine together! For me - the biggest motivator THEN would have been you (or someone like you) showing up on my door and making me DO IT.

It sounds like you might have some neat market spaces to explore though!!!

  5. LOL! Well Jodi, I am VERY glad to hear that oreos are not a food group for you any longer, hahahaha!!

Journals are really a pretty reliable way to make yourself accountable as you've found. You just really have to right it down. Another thing you can do before you reach for something like an oreo, is tell yourself that if you still want that oreo in 10 minutes you can have it. But in that 10 minutes think, hmm, will that REALLY make me feel better? Ok, maybe it will for the 5 seconds it takes to eat it, but after that? Chances are you will reach for something healthier or realize you aren't even hungry.

I am moving in lots of directions right now. Feel like I'm really about to take off!!! Thanks as always for your feedback Jodi!
