So, at the risk of getting hit by lightening, should I admit what my first is today? I'm almost afraid to say it. I mean, up in Maryland (where I grew up), I wouldn't think twice about it. But here in NC in the bible belt, I'm actually afraid to say it! Are you curious? No, I did not go skinny dipping. Although, it was thrown out there by some friends today (not snuggie friends, well, them too, kind of). As far as I know I have not been skinny dipping, but there are many unaccounted hours in my brain from the past, so I'm not ruling it out!!
Ok, well, I know you are on pins and needles, so I'll just say it. I'm going to start reading the bible. START? Gasp! Sinner! It's not like I've never been to church, and I did get confirmed way back in the day, so I'm sure we had to go over stuff in classes? But again. No memory. So I am going to start officially reading the bible. Now, do you read it front to back like a normal book? I always here book 1, book 2, Genesis, Deuteronomy, Job...wait, Job? There's a job section in here? JUST KIDDING. Pipe down, just a little bible humor, don't throw stones....
So, today's FIRST....reading the bible. Must go watch some True Blood first.... : )

I think that is AWESOME! very hard to do. Read the bible from front to back, maybe you should join our bible study class. We are studying Beth Moore "Esther" is the book we are studying from the bible. Last week was our first week, and it is the first and third wednesday's of the month. It is easier to understand the bible through a study, than all by yourself. I don't want to dare deter you from studying the bible, I just feel like you would have a better success rate if you did it with others to support you. Like me :) I pray for you daily, and would love to take class with you. If you miss every now and then, that is ok. Everyone does. Go to Lifeway Christian Bookstore on capial and get a copy of the Beth Moore workbook entitled "Esther", the study is called "it is tough being a woman" AMEN on that one huh? Think about it. You can always get my notes on days you have to teach class. The study is always done when your daughter gets out of preschool, and hey, her preschool is where the bible study is, how perfect is that??? You will not feel intimidated AT ALL by the women in the class, everyone is super nice..let me know. You asked me to read this, now you may wish you hadn't.
ReplyDeleteBTW, next class is this wednesday October 7, at 9:30. If you miss it, I can let you know the next date. I am unsure right now, but will get the schedule Wednesday. I have all the notes, and you can catch up really quickly. We answer our homework questions (not hard), then watch a video, then have 2 weeks between classes to get homework done for next time. Please consider it. I am a strong believer in bible study, it was through taking bible study when my kids were 2 and 4 that I became saved, and it made a MAJOR difference in my life. It gives you the daily uplift that you just can't get on your own, no matter how much you workout and make those endorphines fly.
ReplyDeleteIt's not out of the question Teresa. And I not only thank you for reading my blog, but taking the time to reply as well. You are awesome! Right now, it's all I can handle with just trying to READ the bible. Doing any more work right now would make my head explode. I'm on the verge of getting my personal training cert., teaching more classes, and maybe starting a business, trying to add that to the mix would just be setting myself up for failure I believe. But, when the time is right, I will take you up on it. I would love to go with you and that would be very convenient yes, just would add too much stress right now and I'm trying to clear out some stress. Again, you are super sweet, I love your input and opinions!
ReplyDeleteI am still amazed by this post. Once you get into the Bible you will find it is filled with some life changing stories. I read where Teresa is encouraging you to be a part of her Esther study. If this doesn't work with your full schedule you can also go to www.lifeway.com/women and download Beth Moore's Esther study. Deb, you would love Beth Moore. She is one the best Bible teachers around. She has a hysterical sense of humor and is really down to earth. She tried everything on the planet before God touched her life. I love reading her blog and always come away challenged. Teresa is right having others come along side of you really makes it challenging to go deep. Also, at any study there are ladies who have never been and will understand you where you are right now. I have found most of the leaders in studies reach out to new faces and really try and make them feel comfortable. I know you would be a great addition to any group with your questions and desire to learn. You are awesome and I will continue to pray for your sweet family.:)
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome information Anita! Time is really a factor right now. I don't want to jump into something and do it half way. I will definitely look into the stuff online. Baby steps! Now I know how people new to exercise feel: ) Thanks for speaking up. I know others are seeing this and benefitting too!!!
ReplyDeleteAnita, thanks for the information on the internet! I am interested in bible study too, but work during the day and have a difficult time getting to many extra activities in the evenings, so I'm going to look it up on the internet!
ReplyDeleteYou asked where to start and I think John is pretty good, Gives a good basic idea of who Jesus is and is clear to read (not too confusing) The Psalms are nice to read too. A lot of them are songs and prayers, sort of like poems from the heart.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tanya! And thanks for a first idea too, I will take you up on that: )
